In the United States, equality is demanded from everyone. One of the key components is affirmative action. This is a program that expects positive action towards its citizens with respect to overlooking any race, practices, barriers, or policies that prohibit one from landing a job or career. In addition, there must be fair speculations of women, people with disabilities, and minorities who are in search for a job. The purpose is simple; provide fairness to every single citizen qualified for the workforce regardless of gender, race, or disabilities.
In the video projected in class, a case was brought to court where a girl was denied her acceptance into the University of Michigan due to her race. At the University of Michigan, a racial preference was one of the main reasons many minorities were admitted over white students who were equally qualified or even more qualified. The only reason the dominant student may have not been accepted is due to the race. This case sparked many opinions …show more content…

Weber case, Affirmative Action was not taken into account by the United Steelworkers of America. Brian Weber did not receive a job by this company and he claimed it was because of his color’s historical background. In addition, he claimed that they violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964 Title VII due to the racial discrimination he encountered. According to the Steelworkers compny, there was no intention of discriminating and they do accept any color but once the population of their employees was seen to be white dominant, an alarm went off. Although Weber strongly supported his side through his color and facts about the company’s employees, the court ruled that the United Steelworkers of America did not violate the act he claimed the company did. This in fact was because the company lawfully performed Affirmative Action by helping minority employees and prevented any other employee from receiving
