In the United States, assisted suicide is a very controversial topic. There are many citizens that support the right to assist in your own suicide and there are also many people that are strongly against the thought of taking your own life. Assisted suicide is an option to terminally ill patients that are suffering at such an extent, that they would rather take their lives than live through the pain another day. The cost of assisted suicide plays a major role in whether or not the person will choose to continue living or end their life. The physical pain of the condition that you are in, the emotional pain experienced, and even the spiritual pain in dealing with a terminal illness all take a tole on the patient. These pains are described as total pains by Mosoin (2014). Considering continuous suffering every day for the rest of their life, it is no wonder why some patients decide to ask for physicians assisted suicide. Seeing one of your family members going through this type of pain every single day would affect anyone. It would be hard to blame them for wanting to end the suffering by assisted suicide. Nobody wants to have a slow and painful death, but with terminally ill patients that is exactly what they get. The option of physicians assisted suicide gives the patient the ability to pick where, when, and with whom you are with at the end of your life (Lewis, 2017). The ability to know when they are going to die gives the patient some peace of mind, instead of wondering if today is their last day. If physicians assisted suicide was not legalized it would make terminally ill patients suffer in terrible pain until their death day finally
