Is assisted suicide the way to go is one is terminally ill? Assisted suicide or euthanasia is when a terminally ill person can get a doctor prescribed drug or injection to end his or her life. Some say that it is easier to end one’s life rather than to suffer. Although it helps the suffering of many people, it is not the way that people should end their lives. Suffering is hard for both the patient and their loved ones, but euthanasia is not the path to take. The doctors can prescribe pain killers, nurses and doctors will be affected, and life is sacred. Pain killers, they are meant to help with pain. Therefore, why would one choose death over a taking pain killers? Most people who argue for euthanasia, the pain the patient is in is their main argument. “A minority disagreed with pain as a reason to an assisted death, arguing that this could be relieved with medication” (Tomlinson et al 723). She is absolutely correct, everyone suffers, choosing an assisted death will make loved ones suffer as well. Not only do they prescribe pain killers, but legalizing euthanasia will affect the nurses. Some people do not think that a person gets to choose when they die (Tomlinson et al 723). A person cannot cheat death and stay alive forever; therefore, they cannot cheat death by making it come sooner than it should have happened.
