The First Amendment states the basic inalienable rights we have in America, so why do we ban and challenge books that represent our freedom? Banning books only leads to one after another being banned, and taken off the list of books our libraries offer. The common theme when banning books comes primarily from parents, specifically parents of students who think that their children are reading a book too graphic or inappropriate for school literature. Topics getting banned the most include sexually explicit, offensive language (Racial and Homophobic slurs), along with violence. Banning some books with the topics listed in the opening paragraph may not be the best for children and young teenagers to read, but in the end, it is we who choose
