The United States of America is renowned for the endless freedoms the country offers, yet high schools are being deprived of the opportunity to include important pieces of literature in curriculum because of the controversial subjects highlighted within the books. One piece of literature that falls in this category is Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 which has been challenged prominently because of violence. Although the novel contains sophisticated themes and violent behavior, Fahrenheit 451 should be authorized for academic use in high school curricula because it promotes awareness and classroom discussion on the prevalence of violence in society. The majority of concerned citizens believe that banning books protects the youth, however, these
Would you rather read a book of your choice or read a book that has been banned. ”Often challenges are motivated by a desire to protect children from “inappropriate” sexual content or “offensive” language. The following were the top three reasons cited for challenging materials as reported to the Office of Intellectual Freedom: content was considered to be sexually explicit, contained offensive language, and the materials were unsuited to any age group.” Banned books give people a sense of curiosity and excitement, which is why more and more people want to read banned books; to see what the hype was about.
People wanting to censor books must follow a set of rules. First, they must provide evidence on why they believe this book should be censored. They should have a reason on why the particular novel has a dangerous effect on the youth. Second, they must provide psychological evidence that shows how reading a potential dangerous book could inspire students to flagrantly disregard authority. Although opinion is usually taken from people who frequently read, the issue of censorship should be taken into account from all
Brett Lefler Fletcher English II 18 May 2018 Finals Research Essay Fiction books maybe removed from the curriculum as a whole. That has to do with the school board not seeing their true value. Fiction books can have an effect on the people who read them. Whether it be positive, or negative, fiction books can be just as important as nonfiction books can be. Ray Bradbury’s novel Fahrenheit 451, for example, is set in a future where, about fifty years prior to the story, the populace gave up books and had most of them burned.
Banned books are books that have been deemed illegal for one reason or another by a governing body or religious institution. Books can be banned nationwide or locally. Usually the main culprits of a banned book are religious parents who see this book as defying their beliefs, offensive, or are only suitable to a select age group. Many of these books are biographies, beloved children’s books and even some of these books have been and still are promoted and used in schools. One of these banned books is very popular in school although it’s an edited version rather than the original. One of the three most intriguing books that are widely known to be used in many primary and secondary
The concept of censorship is at fault to attempt to control and halt the advance of knowledge. So, censorship takes the form of leaving gaping holes in students education and later on in life. To me, censorship should not be attained in schools. This is because books are among our best teachers and “protecting” children from the difficulties of the world through censorship isn’t teaching them anything. Although you believe not all books are appropriate for certain age groups, on the contrary, kids find out the things you try to censor them from in the end.

By examining the offensive aspects of the book, I think that it's questionable to whether or not this book should have been banned in some schools. First off , I think that one of the reasons that the book has been banned is because of the violence. Although some kids can handle gory scenes of the book, some find themselves frightened because of some scenes. One line that gives a good example of this is where in one page it states, ”Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill one another while we watch” . While some find this as making you appreciate that you didn't have to go through something like this, some view
