In both the film and novel, the citizens are under surveillance and are controlled by rules that are made by the government. In Fahrenheit 451 the main and most well known rule is that people cannot own or read books. If a person had books hidden in their homes, firmen would go pick them up and burn them, or burn the whole house if they didn’t to turn them in. In The Giver one of the main rules was precision of language, meaning they had to explain and describe clearly in one or few words what they meant. Even though this is true some still say that wonderful books like this should be banned from schools so that today’s youth cannot read them. However I disagree and say that we should let today’s youth read these books and that they should in fact not be banned from schools across the country. I believe this for several reasons; kids need to learn to be more mature, this book teaches many valuable things, and finally “Call of the Wild” and other books that are getting banned from schools are timeless Classics that everyone should have the privilege to read and enjoy.

In both The Giver and Fahrenheit 451, they used the banning of books to emphasize how without knowledge, you are ignorant. Jonas from The Giver, for example, leaves his utopian community to find a better life for himself after realizing how naive and ignorant he was in his perfect society. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag sees how ignorant and unwise he has been all his career, not looking through the books and not caring. Censoring Books In Public Schools Is Necessary To Protect The Children Books have been censored for decades, mostly for secular and religious reasons. With the invention of the printing press in 1450, it became harder to eliminate offensive books, however a study conducted at the American Library Association (ALA), says that most books have been challenged by parents followed by patrons, a board or administration, librarians or teachers, political and religious groups, and the government. The same study showed that “sexually explicit content, offensive language, and "unsuited to any age group" are the top three reasons cited for requesting a book to be removed” (“Banned Books”). Books in public schools should continue to be censored for the protection of children and the improvement of society.
Everyone wants the best for their children. No one wants their sweet child to take part in drugs, crime, violence, profanity, and racism, so these behaviors should definitely not be encouraged. As you read the novel To Kill A Mockingbird you notice that it is very racist. Throughout the novel you notice that it repeatedly uses the “n” word.
