More gun control is not the answer! Carrying a concealed firearm reduces crime and there are plenty of studies to back this up. Moreover, acquiring a concealed carry permit may inform you about laws you may not have known about, and could make you more mindful in the future. Lastly, it is our constitutional right to bear arms and we should be able to exercise our rights without reconciling.
Concealed carry is said to help deter and reduce crime, albeit it actually puts the general public’s safety at risk especially when the firearms are misused, either intentionally or unintentionally. 1. Concealed carry laws are inconsistent between each state and permits should not be given out to individuals with little or no training. 2. Background checks are not required and do not prevent people with criminal records or a history of mental instability from acquiring a weapon.
First, the report states that “states have granted concealed carry permits to domestic abusers, criminals, the mentally ill, and suicidal individuals, among others.” This can be proven false right away, since to own a concealed carry permit, let alone most kinds of firearms in general. An applicant has to pass a background check. So anyone with a criminal record or who is mentally unstable won’t be able to receive a concealed carry permit. Later on, the report claims that in 29 instances, people used their concealed carry permits to carry out mass killings.
Christmas [2003] in a leafy, upscale Chicago suburb, home owner Hale DeMar used his handgun to shoot a burglar. Trouble is , Wilmette years ago outlawed his handgun to shoot a burglar. That means it was illegal for him to defend himself. Open carry Imagine walking into a convenient store just minding your own business, unarmed, when someone with bad intentions comes in wielding a firearm what are you going to do? Even though firearms have been given a bad name, due to mass shootings and other unfortunate events, the open carry law will lower crime in Texas. A person who open carries is carrying to protect themselves and others, incidentally statistics show that other states that have legalized open carry have lowered their crime rates. States that have legalized open carry have shown lower crime rates through the year of 2012 “It is important to note that in states that have legalized the open carry law, violent crime was twenty three percent lower”. Within the time frame of a person getting a gun to defend their home, there could be a break in or a homicide where only the denial of the gun is to blame. As indicated in, A Factual Look at Guns in America, “Georgia passed a law requiring heads of households to keep at least one firearm in the house. The residential burglary rate subsequently dropped 89% in Kennesaw, compared to just 10.4% drop in Georgia as a whole.” Which shows that without a weapon to defend themselves there are a much higher amount of burglaries than with a weapon. On the contrary with stricter access people with mental illnesses would be unable to get a gun.

"Would you rather just sit there and cower underneath a desk while someone executes you and your friends or would you rather have a chance to defend your life? That's what it really boils down to," says Michael Flitcraft, a 23-year-old sophomore at the University of Cincinnati. Flitcraft has become a leading advocate and organizer for Students for Concealed Carry on Campus (SCCC), a grass-roots organization that was formed after the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre that left 32 college students and professors dead (Arena). Violent crimes reported on the news while still surprising to hear and see has become very common. While the numbers seem to be overwhelming, statistics share violent crimes are at an all-time low. There are many suicides each year from people who carry or know someone who does or has a family member who carries. The ironic thing is that if people didn’t have the right to carry concealed handguns, most crimes, deaths and injuries would not happen because it would just be harder to get ahold of guns. Concealed handguns can easily cause the risk of unnecessary shootings. Disagreements will happen and instead of a possible fist fight a person's anger can escalate and a gun could be pulled out and that disagreement or fight turns into a deadly shooting accident. Our society today is so lazy that there may be many that would not go through the trouble just to get a gun.
A few years ago, a student named Amanda Carpenter attended the University of Nevada at Reno. She was walking to her car from class when she was attacked and raped. This student felt as if she had been allowed to carry a concealed gun, she probably would not have gotten raped that night (Wiseman, 2012). There are many misconceptions about carrying a concealed gun, everyone is not criminals, and everyone will not commit a crime. A thorough background check, training, and the passing of a test should qualify people the right to carry a concealed gun everywhere.

Someone that is mentally ill or has certain problems like Nikolas Cruz shouldn’t be allowed to own a gun in the first place.
