In education some people believe that college exceptions should not be based on what ethnicity you are, but on what grades or family background you have. There can be many disadvantages in college admission becoming unfair or the “capping” of students being accepted because of their race. In 1978 Regents of University of California v. Bakke the Supreme Court ruled that a university's use of racial "quotas" in its admissions process was unconstitutional, but a school's use of "affirmative action" to accept more minority applicants was constitutional in some circumstances. In and article written by The New Republic called (Race Matters in College Admissions, Now More Than Ever). A student says “ My research shows that limiting the use of race in higher education admissions policies can have harmful consequences for the diversity of the student body.” If we take out ethnicity in college acception it will leave a decline in the diversity of the student body. Making students feel uncomfortable or unwelcomed into the university. Another statement made by ( New York Times) stats that “Even after decades of affirmative action, black and Hispanic students are more underrepresented at the nation’s top colleges and universities than they were 35 years ago.” Meaning that the ethnicity rate in schools has gone down. Another statement they make in the the article is that students who are white have more of an advantage because if the considered all merit they would most likely have all white, upper class people who can afford SAT classes, ACT prep, test coaches and much more. The other ethnicities just don't have the same opportunities. Which is why they want the ethnicity to be considered on college acceptance because it can give them an advantage of getting in. Others believe that Students of one race is more favored leaving the other ethnicities “non existent” in colleges. So that all schools should be equal on having
