Hello graduating seniors, Imagine you’re a new adult living a life full of regret all because you didn’t go to college after high school. This is a constant struggle throughout society. Someone who experiences this first hand is Sally Smith. She always dreamed of going to medical school and becoming a doctor but when the time came to attend college, she didn’t. She didn’t think she wasn’t good enough and wasn’t willing to work hard for her dream. So instead of becoming a doctor like she hoped, she settled for a job in marketing and constantly regrets her decision. It’s hard to predict what situations you will run into someday in your life but with knowledge of adaptable skills, difficult situations can become a lot easier. Everyday activities revolve around specific skills “communication skills will influence just about every aspect of your life. The ability to communicate clearly […] will help you land the perfect job, improve your career advancement opportunities and enhance your interpersonal relationships with family members and associates” (Beckstead). Obtaining beneficial skills will not only prove that the activities above will be easier to obtain, but overall success without these skills will be much harder. College is the best place to learn skills to help provide for yourself in the future. People who don’t attend college will be missing this opportunity to learn necessary skills in a public community with other people. This lack of skill can drastically change one’s success rate in difficult situations. Although communication skills are important, we need other skills as well in order to succeed. College helps show students many skills, as shown when Beckstead says, “Balancing school, work, dating, and a social life in a brand new community helps you to figure out what elements you need to lead a happy life” (Rice). College provides students with opportunities for higher paying jobs which can be extremely helpful. Recent studies show that “Not going to college will cost you about half a million dollars” (Leonhardt). Of course not going to college will eliminate debt, but it limits student’s available opportunities. College graduates end up finding higher paying jobs after graduations which ends up helping them earn more money overall. This pays debt faster and allows them to use the rest of their earnings on other things to satisfy their wants and luxuries. Others who don’t have these high paying jobs don’t have this opportunity to buy products to satisfy their wants and luxuries because they spend most of their earnings on repaying debt. Since money helps people provide for necessary and enjoyable products, it’s important to make enough money to be able to do this action. The difference between college graduates salary and high school graduate’s salary is massive: “those with a bachelor's degree generally earned 56% more than high school graduates […] those with an associates degree earned 21% more than high school graduates.” (Marklein). This extra money can be used to pay debt, do more activities with friends, or even provide a future for any children that you could have someday. Not only is it important to go to
