Congressional Gridlock In the United States, political gridlock has become very common where everyone knows and talks about it but does nothing about it. In fact, the Congress has had various limitations while passing bills or solving problems that are of key concern to the American society. A political or congressional gridlock stands for a divided government, a congress that spearheads different ideas on a certain issue hence becoming hard to agree on a particular solution. The different cultures have largely influenced the politics of the country; politicians are also being influenced by the differences leading to gridlock. It is notable that when people in a certain culture do not support a bill the politicians from the population also seem to side with them without thinking about the greater need of the people at large. For example, we can remember the scenario at the expiry of the tax cuts on the year 2012 during Obama's tenure. Despite the Democrats led by President Obama looking towards renewing the tax cuts for the American workers and people earning $250,000 and less as well as the Republicans. Despite the two parties sharing a common goal of maintaining the tax cuts for the American people gridlock stood as a potential block to achieving the goal. In the current government, it is evident that gridlock seems to have taken over hence nearly paralyzing the activities of the Congress. In fact, it can clearly be seen when arguments on immigration and the Affordable Care Act come up. In fact, gridlock seems to turn the Congress into almost a permanent state of gridlock which limits the democracy of the US. In the year 2017, the government saw futile attempts to overthrow the Affordable Care Act, this year we experienced a three-day shutdown following the immigration debate. While these are factors that mean a lot to the general American society, gridlock stands as a block towards achieving policies that contribute to the growth of the society.
