Judging from their conduct in previous years, the branches of our government seem to be suffering from an identity crisis. It was used to be expected, harshly speaking, that the congress would pass laws, the President would execute them, and the Supreme Court would interpret them into individual cases. This was the political framework established by the Constitution and attached to for the better part of our political history. However, it isn’t the way the federal government works. And as digression from the Constitution’s plan grows more common, a more permanent deranging of the American political system becomes more predictable.
