Historically, forensic science and miscarriages of justice were never closely examined. However, forensic science has been pointed to as a contributor to miscarriages of justice since as long ago as the Dreyfus case. The Dryfus case or the “Dryfus affair” was a political scandal that divided France until it was resolved in 1906. It started with the treason conviction of Captain Alfred Dreyfus, a young French artillery officer of Alsatian and Jewish descent. Sentenced to imprisonment for sharing French military secrets to the German Embassy in Paris.
