Environment is a major contributor in an individual's general health. An individual’s environment is directly associated with their physical development and is a determinate of their overall well-being. With that being said, major energy industries have developed a relatively new drilling techniques that has puts the health of many at risk. The process of fracking can be described as the action of drilling deep into the earth’s lower layers in order to release a high pressure water mixture. This mixture consists of a combination of water, sand, and various chemicals. This mixture is then injected into the ground. Once injected, the mixture allows the gas and oil to flow out of the earth at the head of the well. A great deal of political officials are impressed with the mass amounts of oil being produced through this process. Although politicians are content with the results, not everyone is happy with this new oil extracting technology. The drilling techniques used in the fracking process expose native communities to potential health risks, developed from the negative environmental impacts. These risks and environmental impacts include but are not limited to: groundwater contamination, toxic chemical exposure, and soil contamination. The fracking process entails the intermixing of extremely high levels of chemical preservatives within the fluids pumped into the ground. Anytime the fracking process is put into use it generates an abundance of toxic fluids as well as releases radioactive material, salt water, and heavy metals.
