Gun control proponents obviously must not be students of history. There is an old proverb that says, when people do not learn from history, they are doomed to repeat it. They seem to forget a time in America’s past when we tried something very similar to gun control. It was called the “Prohibition”. During the years 1920 to 1933, there was a ban on all things alcoholic; sales, production, consumption, and transport of said substance. Because of the ban, there was a major spike in violent crimes. The gangs began to take over. A black market for alcohol quickly emerged and was very, very lucrative. People even began making their own liquor and transported it for large sums of money. Chicago has always ranked near the top of the list for highest murder rate. The city decided to try and fix their problem by implementing a handgun ban in 1982. At the time of the ban, the handgun homicides leveled out. Between the years 1987 and 1988, people began to find ways around the ban. When this happened, the handgun homicides skyrocketed to a new high. The ban was ineffective. In fact, the U.S. Supreme Court made Chicago repeal its handgun ban in 2010, because they deemed it unconstitutional. Jumping over to Florida, who unlike Chicago, enacted a right-to-carry law. Gun Control proponents are attempting to take guns away from law-abiding citizens by using the argument that, “If you are not a hunter, then you do not need a gun.” This is referring to the general populous. They even attempt (and quite honestly fail) to use the second amendment to back them up. The second amendment does not read, ‘You must be a hunter to have a gun’. The second amendment clearly states people have a right to “keep and bear” guns and that it shall not be infringed upon for any reason. That is the legal side of the answer to the argument. However, by taking a look at the biblical side of things, one can see a completely different answer. God clearly and unmistakably gave people a right to hunt and to bear arms. Genesis 9:3 reveals that “every moving thing that lives on the earth shall be food; for He has given all things.” The founding fathers of this great country based the constitution on scripture. The founding fathers never could have imagined or possibly even thought there would be so much open opposition to such a basic and fundamental right. They did not add in a P.S. or some fine print specifying that certain activities or weapons are not allowed. So, what do the gun control proponents think the founding fathers meant by the second
