Gun control has been a very prevalent problem in today’s society. Opinions on whether to be stricter on the gun laws or not, has made Americans choose a side. There have been plenty of mass shootings just over the past ten years alone. In my opinion, the most infamous massacre over the past 10 years was the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. For my generation, this kind of sparked the mass media attention in regard to school/ mass shootings. Adam Lanza, an introverted 20-year-old, woke up the morning of December 14, 2012, killed his mother, and drove to the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Approximately 15 minutes after shooting his way into the locked building, Lanza killed himself with a single shot to the head. In less than half an hour, Lanza killed 20 first grade boys and girls and six of the school’s teachers and staff. This situation has all of the components which we need to observe in order to control the amount of mass shootings that occur. He was mentally unstable, had possession of a semiautomatic weapon and gained access to a school filled with young children easier than he should have. …show more content…

Some states require permits to purchase guns, while others don’t. Some states also restrict the ability of a person to purchase an assault weapon, which has shown to be the weapon of choice for most mass shootings. The law should be the same in each state to facilitate enforcement while protecting the rights of citizens who legally have guns to move unrestricted across state lines. People who purchase guns should also have to go through 100% background checks. Guns should not be given to people who are unstable or could be a possible danger to civilian’s
