Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Guns do not need to be changed, Banned, or have stricter regulations, the people is what needs to be changed. People need to be educated on gun safety, like how to properly manage and handle a gun. Guns have long since been a heated topic and most people lean heavily on one side of the spectrum rarely in the middle. It has been a “Either you are with us or against us” Debate since the 90’s. Guns do not need stricter rules and regulations or bans, it is mainly social problems that is the cause of these controversial mass shootings and guns are just a tool to make things easier. The Federal Assault Weapons Ban was a subsection under a larger act called the “Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994”, the act was to give funding for prisons and officers and to also expand federal law and punishments following the 101 Street shooting in San Francisco, California and the Waco Siege in 1993. The media have been painting the scene with a broad brush and labeling all guns as “semi automatic assault rifles” and that all of them should be banned and most infamously the “AR 15”, from mainstream news and politicians, as far as big celebrities such as Ellen Degrassi and Jimmy Kimmel. To clarify and dispel any confusion, the term “assault weapon” did not exist prior to 1989. A quote directly from Bruce Kobayashi and Joseph Olsen’s writings in the Stanford Law & Policy Review says “ Prior to 1989, the term "assault weapon" did not exist in the lexicon of firearms. It is a political term, developed by anti-gun publicists to expand the category of "assault rifles”.” But the definition of assault rifle is also pretty confusing due to the constant usage of the media. According to multiple sources, an assault rifle is a “firearm capable of rapid fire/automatic (multiple bullets at the pull of one trigger),burst fire, and single fire (semi-automatic), and is also magazine fed designed for military purposes.” So a rifle such as an AR 15 which is a semi-automatic, capable of shooting only one bullet per pull of trigger, is not an assault rifle in technicality.
