The Pros And Cons Of Human Gene Editing

685 Words3 Pages

During this month of December a summit was hailed in Washington DC to discuss one thing, human gene editing. This is a very important topic as of right now as scientist reach closer and closer to playing god when it comes to gene editing. That is why there needs to be boundaries of what is okay to alter and what is not. There is even a possibility of completely changing the entire human genome for the future with this. Gene editing could be used for good as like helping cure cancer and diseases that are genetically passed down. But there could also be a possibility of this being abused and causing certain things to change that might cause negative ripples for the future. This is also an ethical issue because what scientist are doing could be seen as …show more content…

Human gene editing could affect society in a very big way. It could drastically change how humans even look like and what they could get. This could have some ripples into the future because as we all know, evolution changes species. This process could take thousands and thousands of years. But with editing the human gene it could actually accelerate this process by altering humans and different species in just a few generations. Wither or not you are for or against it you need to realize as well that this could help accelerate humans. What this science issue is trying to answer is that how this could be used for the greater good but it also needs to be regulated. Like with editing we could uncover more scientific discovers that could help us better understand the human genome and also prevent diseases and certain features that would be consider not wanted. Scientist also implanted test animals with certain human diseases to see how it reacts in the molecular level and treatment to fight it off. But another hurdle to overcome is safety because there is also a possibility a scientist could slice the wrong DNA and it can cause major side
