(Word Count: 876) In general, immigration or immigrants are often categorized as one of two things: Either they are beneficial or they are detrimental to a country’s economy, native population, and political standpoint among many other things. However, reaching from a positive viewpoint, influx of immigrants in a country has the potential to increase population which in turn can be extraordinarily helpful to a said country that struggles to populate. Which brings me to Maine, a state that has decreased in population over the past few years. In, Business leaders clamor for immigrant workers, business leaders meet and determine that Maine must welcome newcomers vital to the economy as it faces so many retiring, addresses the shortage of the work force of Maine and potential positive impacts that immigrants can have on this problem. One is that the workforce has declined and the other is that young people are not interested in being a part of Maine’s society. Now keep these in mind. Note that majority of the international immigrants that are looking for better jobs and wealth are surprisingly young (Lesson 3, Page 12). By being more inclusive of immigrants into Maine here are some of the positive outcomes that can happen. One is that since one of the main reasons that international immigrants leave their country is in search of jobs, we can give them these empty jobs that need to be filled and as a result we would see an indefinite increase in Maine’s workforce. Coupled with that, we would also see that since most of the international immigrants are young this would greatly fill the shortage of young people that Maine needs to contribute to its economy.
