The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. This old proverb stays true to this day. Freedom, Equality, and a chance at success for its citizens’ are the core values of this nation. According to the World Population Review website, less than 1% of Americans are of American Indian or Alaskan Indian background. Without a doubt, this is a nation of immigrants. So, why is there such turmoil regarding immigration if over 98% of the inhabitants of this country are immigrants themselves, or descendants of immigrants? Whether it’s a small town in Vietnam or the world’s most populous city in India, all are influenced by America. This nation has become modern day’s Holy Land. Millions of people flee their home countries to come to America seeking liberty and a better quality of life for their families. The government aids such people through different programs such as is the one for political refugees. Yet, hundreds of thousands of people enter this country illegally. These folks are subjected to abuse both physical and mental from the beginning of their journey. For example, many people who choose to come through the border of Mexico face danger from human and drug traffickers looking for easy targets. Once here, their lives don’t get much better. Significantly lower wages and a rising cost of living can force them into homes where they don’t even have a room. On the other side, hardworking Americans find it harder and harder to maintain work. The American view towards Latino immigrants has shifted over the decades. Majority of Americans view Hispanics in a positive way. Many believe that legal immigrants have a positive effect on the economy. Traditionally know for strong family values, Latinos have made a niche for themselves in this great country. Regardless some still see a threat in illegal immigrants. To these folks, the lack of accountability and the ability to live in the shadows is cause for worry. Illegal immigrants open the door for many who are seeking a different agenda. With the rise of illegals entering the country is common to experience a rise in crime and the introduction of drugs through the border. Yet, it is a deeper evil that lurks in the shadows. No longer needing to fly directly into the U.S where they can be caught in airports, terrorists possess new ways to inflict damage. Strapped with nothing but a backpack one of these terrorist can cross the border, hop on a cab and imperceivably get to a major city detonating a bomb and killing hundreds.
