An induced abortion is the act of willingly terminating gestational products,executed by medical instruments and/or drugs (Induced). Induced abortions are also defined as the purposeful termination of a pregnancy before the fetus can live on it’s own, without help from the mother (Sherk). A spontaneous abortion is the loss of a pregnancy without outside intervention,whether it is from medicine or medical instruments (Spontaneous). Spontaneous abortions, also known as a miscarriage, are additionally defined as the loss of a fetus caused by naturally occurring events (Miscarriage). According to a 1987 survey, the two most prominent reasons for women having an abortion are that the mother doesn't feel ready to take on the responsibility of a baby and that the parents cannot afford a baby at the moment, both being ranked at twenty-one percent on the survey. Sixteen percent of the mothers are concerned about how having a baby would transform their social lives. Twelve percent have problems with their relationship(s) or they do not want to turn out to be a single mother. Next in line, at eleven percent, the mothers feel that they are too young or too immature to raise a child alone without outside help from another person.
