There may never be a short and sweet fix-all that meets every concern of enlisted members in the US NAVY. Yet, if there was a contender, it would be "sailor centered." The mission of the United States Navy is to maintain, train and equip combat-ready Naval forces capable of winning wars, deterring aggression, and maintaining freedom of the seas. This is not changing the mission of the Navy it is a shifting the focus from the results of winning wars, deterring aggression and maintaining freedom of the seas to the method in which we achieve that by maintaining, training, and equipping combat ready Naval forces. Some common plights involve the recruiter, basic training, and special warfare drops. The issue of recruiters being untruthful is often times a lack of communication or understanding, despite the popular belief of intentional malicious behavior. For example, a recruiter who has been in for twenty years may not fully understand how basic training operates now; unless a community work ethic is established with a current or recent Recruit Division Commander. The same is true for knowledge of what life will be like in a certain rate. This is a practical way to remove the “not my job” or “this doesn’t affect me, so I don’t care” mentality that has plagued the service. It is understandable and fair to acknowledge that every recruiter will not be able to hold the hand of every Dreamer that walks into their office. It is also fair to accept that if a resource is not provided to a Dreamer to do their own research, an opportunity was missed to display a genuine interest in the Dreamer's goals. Some tips to make anyone a competent teacher of any subject are as follows: Never assume anything is common knowledge. This means that when someone says they do not know something laughing is never appropriate nor unhelpful. Teach based on the W's. When explaining something say what it is, who would use it, who it helps or who it came from, when it would be necessary to use this tool or procedure, where to find it in normal and emergency conditions, and why this is important. This basic teaching criteria is a failsafe for those who may not know teaching but know their subject matter very well. In addition, to the W's an attempt to make the learning process as multisensory as possible works well. Crows should not look at a subordinate who is underperforming as a failure, but an opportunity to reach out and keep the sailor centered mentality alive up the rank structure. Crows should focus on being the Sailors they want to lead, instead of looking at their subordinates as the workforce for the jobs they do not want to
