There has been talk for many years to lower the drinking age from twenty-one back down to eighteen. Many people think it should be lowered and others think it is fine where it is. The main reason why the drinking age is at twenty-one is because the United States’ government, told states that if they do not raise their drinking age up to twenty-one the government would take away funding for their roads and bridges. The government threatened these states with this so that they would follow the government’s rules on the drinking age. The reason they threatened them with that was because a few teenagers got in car accidents when they were drinking. The real reason why they raised the drinking age was that a group of moms called MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) lobbed lawmakers to change the law on drinking and raise the drinking age. The federal government should not be able to tell states what age it is legal to drink it should be up to the state governments to decide what is best for their state. One of the most helpful things that lowering the drinking age is raise in sales and alcohol tax witch that money would be reinvested in to the state. Which would then make the state better in so many was by being able to drive on nicer roads and watch the teachers be happier and teach even more better knowing that they are getting paid more. Do not forget even though it is not the most important is could also help with health issues in younger adults. With lowering the drinking age, it can all start with peoples’ parents and even maybe schools teaching kids how to use and drink alcohol responsibly.
