Pros And Cons Of Lowering The Drinking Age

Everyone has a different opinion about what the drinking age should be. Some say it should be lowered to 18, some say it should be raised to possibly 25. The drinking age of 21 should stay the same. Although scientists and professors who say the drinking age should be lowered to 18 may have some strong points to defend their case, the facts against them prove them wrong. Even at the age of 25, although there is nothing necessarily wrong with that age, there are some things people could say that might be used against it. At the age of 18 teens are considered young adults. People use this fact to say that the drinking age should be lowered because the young adult is now having the freedom to make his or her own decisions and they are now “mature” enough. At 18 the brain is not fully developed, because of this, the consumption of alcohol could very much damage the brain at a young age (ProCon). Although there may be some young adults who are mature enough to know how to handle themselves or the situation when alcohol is involved, there are many others who are immature. However, as previously stated and my other paragraphs, there are many cons. Young adults rebel and drink, some may also drink because of stress, and many other things. If people could get a hold on what is happening around them. Students for instance, may hear of a party and let someone know if there will be drinking involved. People can take responsibility and help others by letting adults know is there will be underage drinking and could possibly save some lives.
