So what is a semi-automatic assault weapon and what makes it so deadly? An assault weapon is a gun that has detachable magazines, that can hold as many as 100 rounds of bullets, hence the name semi/or fully automatic.8 This paper analyses some reasons why semi-automatic assault weapons should be banned from public use. Mainly, of their deadly capability to kill many people in a short period of time, also they are not needed for house protection by an average man, and they are not protected by the 2nd amendment in the US Constitution. Assault weapons should be illegal for public use because of their capability to kill a large number of people in a very short period of time. In the past mass shootings, semi-automatic assault guns were the
Society as a whole has become less and less violent. Since 1991, reported crimes committed has dropped by almost double (Statista.com). Many people blame the AR-15 for most of the mass murders in America, and ask for the “assault” weapon to be banned. However, many details of the gun are skewed. In an article written by Margot Sanger-Katz of The New York Times, she stated that of all the gun deaths in America, 60% were suicides; and even more contrary to belief, nearly double of the mass killings (4 or more deaths) were with handguns instead of rifles (statista.com).
Why is an assault weapon so unsafe to the public? The guns are made perilous in the minds of individuals, for it's the characters who control the guns. The nation's security will be protected if the sales harmful weapons were organized. There have been cases where people were in possession of the weapons were a threat to others. The dangers of the weapons will flourish if the obstacles aren't dealt with.
This resulted in an increase by 183% of shootings and by 239% of deaths by guns. Obviously, this is a problem, that both puts people’s lives at risk and makes some live in fear. First, the number of shootings is completely intolerable. Many innocent people die due to gun shootings.
The United States is by every metric the world’s sole, remaining superpower; however, per the National Priorities Project, “the United States still spends 54% of its GDP on its military, which translates into 598.5 billion dollars,” (National Priorities Project). The United States has 1,481 warheads, with 741 delivery vehicles, a mere 7 of these warheads could eliminate all life on the continent of Africa. The question then becomes why do we need so many of these weapons? The answer is we don’t. This paper will illustrate why the United States needs to eliminate these weapons and encourage others to do so as well.
When should military force be justified? Military forced should be justified when they start using the military on their own nation or on their unarmed people living there. In some cases they attack town with unarmed people and terrorists. Now if there were more terrorists than unarmed people and the threat was to big then it would have been ok. Now a days that would be a war crime so the problem isn’t that big, but there are still the nations that do it.
These types of weapons only benefit the military and there is no reason for a regular citizen to own a military level weapon. Opponents argue that they can be used for personal protection and recreational use but there is no logical reason to use a semiautomatic gun when you’re just trying to “have fun.” A New York Times editorial argued, “Certain kinds of weapons, like the slightly modified combat rifles used in California, and certain kinds of ammunition, must be outlawed for civilian ownership.” As many Americans agree assault weapons are far deadlier than other firearms (Assault Weapons). “From 1984 to 2012, assailants who used large capacity ammunition magazines were able to shoot 161 percent more people and kill 78 percent more victims than those who used a weapon holding 10 bullets or fewer,” Argued Richard Aborn, president of the Citizens Crime Commission in New York (Assault Weapons).
Weapon control is an exceptionally disputable, confounded, and sensitive subject, since it influences a lot of individuals in our general public, and is loaded with moral and lawful contentions which all must be heard. There are two truly solid positions on firearm control, expert and con. Be that as it may, sees on weapon control aren't that basic, there are many perspectives that branch off of professional or con firearm control. There isn't generally one wellspring of contention, however an extensive gathering of them. For instance, shouldn't something be said about hunters and sport/game shooters, should there right be taken away in light of the activities of others, when they have not harmed anybody.
Will banning of assault weapons reduce crime? The production, sale, and possession of assault weapons for private citizens should be banned in the U.S. According to “The Washington Post”, banning assault weapons will not reduce crime. It will only lead to banning of guns. In the post, they state, “It 's only real justification not to reduce crime, but to make the ownership of weapons to the public less.” By making the ownership of weapons less, the crime rate will most likely decrease, individuals will feel more comfortable walking out-side.
Some days crime rates are up and then the next they are down, what we do know is that America is becoming safer. In 2005, 11,346 persons were killed by firearm violence 477,040 persons were victims of a crime committed with a firearm, (National Institute of Justice). Surprisingly, a lot of gun violence in America is related to self defense. Between 1987 and 1990 it was found that guns were used in defense during a crime incident 64,615 times annually. This equates to two times out of 1,000 incidents (0.2%) that occurred in this time frame.
Let us learn more about this issue. “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people”. While this may be true we can stop those people from making more damage by banning assault weapons. According to www.quora.com a semi-automatic gun can fire 180 bullets per minute.
The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.
Solutions can be made to help the problems with death by guns in the United States, this in term may fix the problems with the second amendment. One solution that may help the situation of the second amendment is the accessibility to certain guns .Many mass shootings include military-style weapons ,such as assault rifles, which are more powerful than normal guns and prove to be highly lethal. In an article by Infobase Learning called "Assault Weapons: Should the government restrict access to assault weapons?" done in 2016 it talks about what happened in the Sandy Hook Elementary mass shooting it states, “...20-year-old Adam Lanza shot and killed 26 people, including 20 children aged 6 and 7, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, before killing himself. Earlier in the day, Lanza had killed his mother, a gun enthusiast, and taken several of her assault weapons, which he used in his rampage.”
Gun Violence In America Gun violence in america accounted for 33,636 deaths in 2015 alone and that number is only rising. If every american was able to obtain a firearm imagine what the numbers of gun related deaths. Even gun related injuries caused many more hospital visits in america what many other common incidents. That is why america needs to implement tighter gun laws to reduce the amount of gun violence in America. Without this we will continue to see shooting, gun death, gun injuries resulting in more and more gun related violence.
Pistols aren’t the only problem but automatic weapons are legal in only a few places and the United States is one of them. It is illegal to hunt with automatic weapons, they are only used for home defense and recreation. Is it worth keeping automatic weapons and semi-automatic weapons for home defense and recreation when tens of thousands of people die each year from gun violence? Banning pistols could have the same effect as it did in Australia and reduce the crime rates and
