People migrate to the United States of America for many reasons, whether they are escaping persecution, war, or they just want to live a better life. In 2017, over one million people came to the US. About 72% of Americans think that immigration is a good thing (Felter and Renwick). Immigration can be both beneficial and detrimental for this country because it brings in new culture, increases the economy, but with new people coming in, they bring fear to Americans.
By allowing more people in the the US from all over the world, even though they are migrating to a new area, they still bring their traditions and beliefs with them. They might be escaping to get a better life, but they do not necessarily believe that they want to completely leave behind their old life. Immigrants want to kept their traditions and belief because it is important to them. Keeping their customs, they share their story their life, and spread the ideas from other countries, making the United States more rich in diversity. Currently, in the United States “there are estimated eleven million undocumented immigrants in the country, as well as rules for legal immigration”(Fetler and Renwick). With extra workers at lower wages companies can hire more people, pay less, and can make more or the product to sell. Immigrants can also be seen to take jobs from Americans. But from a immigrant to get a job, it has to be in a certain field in which they trained in, and with certain visas they have a certain amount of time to find a job in order to remain in the country, “a large share of immigrants have a low level education… they increase the share of some types of workers related to others” (Camarota and Zeigler).
