The election of 2016 was a vigorous fight that pulled the citizens of the United States into the debates that were brought into a brighter light; one of which being race. In the election of 2008, the United States of America had chosen its first African American president. Yet, in the election of 2016, Donald Trump, who is white, was chosen to be the next president in the years to come. This event has put a damper on many of the minority races’ hope that the United States is truly not as diverse and equal as it claims to be.
Coming from a line of White presidents, Barack Obama has given many citizens of a minority race courage that they can aspire for any dream they wish for no matter how big. Beforehand, many of the minority race are discriminated against and are proven statistically to have a disadvantage when striving for a successful life. Most importantly, the education and health of minority races are greatly discriminated against as “high-achieving African American students may be exposed to less rigorous curriculums, attend schools with fewer resources, and have teachers who expect less of them academically than they expect of similarly situated Caucasian students (Azzam, 2008)” (American Psychological Association).
