The Patriot Act will be one of the most controversial pieces of legislation ever to be passed by the United States’ government. People in our society nowadays give the ultimatum “pro security, or anti-freedom?” That is not the Patriot Acct in a nutshell; it is far from that statement. There are more cons than there are pros, but the pros that have come out of the passage of the Patriot Act may have saved millions of American and international lives from the destruction of terrorist. That being said the lives that were saved did come at a price of the American citizens’ privacy and broke numerous amendments from the Bill of Rights.
The Patriot Act is one of today’s most controversial laws. The law’s official name is the USA PATRIOT Act, which stands for Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act. The law was passed in 2001 after the September Eleventh terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The act greatly increased the power of the government in preventing terrorism, but it also increased the amount of surveillance that the government performs on citizens.
Net-neutrality is the principle that providers of Internet services enable access to all contents with no prejudice or discrimination against sites or products regardless of the source. In December, the U.S. government repealed the national regulations that prevented “Internet Service Providers from blocking legal content, throttling traffic or prioritizing content on their broadband networks” in favor of a “looser set of requirements that ISPs disclose any blocking or prioritization of their own content.” In summary, the government has decided to change net-neutrality and make it easier to profit from. The government’s want, and subsequent success, to change the strict guidelines by which net-neutrality operated with is supported by the Chairman
So naturally when looking to see what others have said about this text, it found that they were all mostly in favor of net neutrality. Gregory down talks a recent ruling by the FCC, that after research, seemed to be something he should be praising. This is what the FCC changes actually did, This decision is a major legal victory not only for the FCC, but for all internet users (including you, since you're reading this online), who will continue to benefit from the Commission's open internet rules. These rules safeguard the principle of net neutrality, by preventing internet service providers from abusing their gatekeeper role to block or interfere with the ability of users to access the content of their choosing.
The Patriot Act was created in response of September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the US. The USA Patriot Act was passed by the United States Government and signed by former President George on October 26, 2001. The Act was passed around in many areas in House of Congress and was supported by the both Republican and Democratic parties. The events of 9/11 were a highly significant tragedy that had profound global implications. The attacks on the Twin Towers resulted in an immense loss of life, with 2,977 deaths, numerous casualties, and extensive destruction. Beyond the immediate human toll, the attacks triggered far-reaching changes in society and government. They prompted violent military responses and led to the establishment of Homeland Security in the US, accompanied by counter-terrorism campaigns and the enactment of the USA Patriot Act under President George Bush. Moreover, the attacks harmed Islamic views, increasing stereotypes and biases.
Although the Patriot Act presents virtually many positives, the overall aspect of its existence is detrimental to the citizens of the United States as a whole. Originally being passed in order to protect the country from acts of terrorism, the specificities of the Patriot Act were never underlined which has since led to a much more generalized definition of what legal actions can be pursued on the basis of the Act. Essentially, the Patriot Act should be abolished because it infringes on constitutional rights of citizens, it lacks effectiveness in its goal, and the manner in which it was passed makes you question whether or not it was fully thought through. The Patriot Act provides the United States’ law enforcement agencies broad power in both domestic and international surveillance. This act was designed due to the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. President Bush requested this act to the United States Congress which they passed on October 26, 2001. The act was put in place quickly to stop terrorist within the United States border and be able to apprehend and prosecute the terrorist before they are able to act ("Patriot Act."). The Patriot Act was established to prevent terrorist attacks however; the Patriot Act violates the Constitution making the Act illegal.
The National Security Agency also known as the NSA, it's an intelligent organization of the United States government who monitors foreign countries and collects information of people. The NSA is economically beneficial towards the government of the United States some reasons consist of the prevention of dangerous terrorist attacks, funding's in the government, and the prevention of hackers taking over the system. Though at the same time the NSA should be stopped because they have invaded the privacy of many people without their consents. Currently, the United States has been facing terrorist attack, which has caused many deaths and tragedies not only to the United States but as well towards the world.
The Patriot Act is unsafe, unconstitutional and should be banned from the United States of America. According to source, three president Bush created the Patriot Act in 2001. He signed off on the act after the tragedy of nine eleven to try and monitor terrorists in the United States. Although the act was created to try and keep the country safe, it also has caused several set backs. There are sources that oppose and support the Patriot Act; moreover, the act violates the individual privacy of citizens, can falsely charge innocent people, but can stop terrorism.
This question is not one that can be answered by just a simple yes or no, but by research and explanation. The Patriot Act which was signed in 2001 after 9/11 gave more freedom to law enforcement to help prevent another terrorist attack like that. So is it helping or hurting us? Do law enforcement have too much freedom over what they can monitor us doing? Is the NSA doing their job or simply invading our privacy?
On September 11th, 2001 two planes horrifically struck the world trade center killing 2977 Americans. The President, Senate, and House of Representatives enacted the Patriot Act in response to this horrendous act of terrorism. This act allows the United States Government to track suspected terrorists' phone calls, purchases, and suspicious activities. The act has provided new ways to fraught the plans of terrorists before they can come into action. Since the passing of the Patriot Act, the NSA has been able to stop major attacks before they even happen.
Shant Sahakian, in the informative and opinionated piece, “Repeal of Net Neutrality is bad for Education, Business, and You,” written in Los Angeles Times, on November 30, 2017, argues that repealing, therefore ending net neutrality would be detrimental and “the end of the internet we have always known and loved”, and that ending net neutrality will be bad for education, business, and anyone who believes that the internet should be free and equal to use by all persons who use it today. In 2017 leading into 2018 as well, the term “Net Neutrality†was thrown around by everyone and their mother. Yet, none of the people are actually educated on what it actually means. People are fighting the Government that the internet will not be “free†anymore, when that is not what Net Neutrality means at all. Getting rid of Net Neutrality means that the Government will have control to moderate the internet and allow services like Verizon or AT&T to speed up, slow down, or block anything they want dealing with their own company, which they should be allowed to do anyway since it is their own company. Not only is getting rid of Net Neutrality a great thing, but people have to keep in mind that net Neutrality was created in 2015!
