Dominic T. Hicks, DOB 05/01/77 is a known Registered Sex Offender that lives in Unit 6 and was a possible match to the suspect description given by the victim. On 06/24/15, I conducted registered sex offender address verification checks and contacted Hicks at 109 Lake St. S. #6 which is his registered address. At about 0900 hours, Cpl. Crocker and Detective Lansing contacted Wehrman at the hospital.
Dealing with sexual offenders is not always an easy task to do. Many of the times, the offender will either cooperate or not cooperate. That being said, ATSA has set up a list of regulations that employees should considered. The one I thought were interesting was the fact that motivation inside of the facility and outside is crucial when it comes to the overall treatment of the offender (“ATSA Practice Guidelines and Ethics Order Form,” 2015). If, for example, the treatment is neglectful from the inside of the facility and no support is given by those at home, there’s a high chance that the offender will become an habitual criminal.
The Utah Sex Offender Registry has many purposes and has been around for quite some time. Unfortunately, every state is different and often times the entertainment industry portrays the registry in a false light. The Utah Department of Corrections wants to deflate some of the major myths surrounding the sex offender registry. The most common myth the sex offender registry office receives daily is, “An offender was on the registry yesterday, why are they not on there now?”
Your paper was clear and interesting to read, you provided a number of points and topics to include. It is safe to say that through the observation I had involving the prediction of sex offender recidivism, the offenders that undergo treatment are faced with pros and cons meaning that treatment is necessary when an offender is actively participating. On the other hand, the cons involve an offender that receives treatment but isn 't willing to change the behavior and mindset to re-offend. Moreover, you provided an imperative reasoning for the scenario choice, you provided clear motive, history and background, and professional observation.
The term "sex offender" means an individual who was convicted of a sex offense. Research has shown that Sex offenders that commit a crime against a person has not previously been convicted of a violent offence before. They do these crimes unders a masks of a normal relationship. Most Sexual offences committed against the person are mostly perpetrated by family members and acquaintances, and the big majority of them are unreported. Not all crimes are the same because there is such a wide spectrum of sex crimes.
Sex offenders, typically male, but can be female, about 25% of child victimizers were 40 years old or older. 71% of male offenders are under the age of 35. Most studies we found only dealt with statistics about whites, African Americans, and Latinos. White sex offenders are found to have a closer relationship with their victim, and are more likely to use force. African American offenders are more likely to engage in vaginal rape and become more violent with their victims.
Boy scouts of America: Troop 849 I have been surrounded by scouting my whole life. The my father, my brother, the majority of my uncles and cousins are either an eagle scout or slowly working towards their eagle. Despite this, I never really was interested by it. To me it was a normal thing that I payed little to no attention to.
Although beforehand I was completely stuck on the idea that it was a necessary system, after researching and finding out the facts of this law, I feel that it should be taken out. The fact that it actually causes more harm to society than good is a factor that we definitely need to take into account. Although the idea was bright and the meaning behind it is positive, the overall impacts that it has had on not only the offenders involved but society as a whole has been negative in my opinion. Looking into the unsafe environments and the stereotypical information that these offenders face on a daily is something that significantly impacted me. Often giving them no chance to rehabilitate but rather just punishment, is something that I don’t see as moral and just.
In the United States there are more people incarcerated than any other nation in the world. Recently, many states have taken drastic steps allowing private companies to buy prisons and operate them as profitable businesses. The business models of these companies relies on a high incarceration rate and the ability to operate at a very low cost. This could put a large portion of the prison population at serious risk of having their safety put behind the revenue they earn. Even though these for-profit prisons show no evidence of saving the federal government any money, and have dubious health and safety records, some politicians still push for legislation that is good for private prison companies.
This study examines the sex offenders while being incarcerated. Imprisoned sex offenders face ridicule because of their offense and they are the most victimized group of prisoners. This study tries to understand how these offenders try to be a part of the general prison population and how their conviction become known among the prison population. 59 interviews of formerly incarcerated men give their stories of how the sex offender passes themselves off as non-sex offenders in the prison environment.
America has a strict law, which protects our citizens from predators; sex offender registries are exemplifications. In the article “Protect Yourself, Family From Sex Offenders,” Rick Schneider argues that sex offender’s name should not be taken off even after they had served their time. Many can argue that registries are a good way for the government authorities to keep track, and to protect the community from any violence caused by sex offenders. For example, many people may believe the registry protects people from predators because it allows others to know where the predators are and how likely they are to strike again. On the other hand, some people consider that it is “horribly unfair” to release the names and addresses of offenders
These days you never know who you may end up dating. People come from all walks of life, and everyone has a past. Unfortunately, some people have a past that you need to find out about before you later regret it. Although most people are aware of this, the real question is how to go about it. The following a few things to consider doing to get information about the person you are dating.
The most successful part of sentencing sexual offenders to jail time is separating them from society. The main goal for sex offender legislation is to protect society, and this is probably the most effective. Although it is not common for sex offenders to face jail time, it is a form of legislation that needs to be used more often. If sentenced to jail time, the sentences would range from 6 months to 25+ years, which during this time, is the perfect time for the offenders to receive treatment, if possible, and be separated from those they might harm (California Sex Offender Sentencing Guidelines 2020). States try to come up with different forms of treatment and legislation to protect society from these offenses, but it is not very often they would sentence them to jail time, which almost all members of society would feel safer
Effectiveness of Sex Offender Registries: Do They Reduce Recidivism? Sex offenders are commonly viewed as the worst of the worst in regards to criminal offenders. Their heinous actions instill a sense of fear among the victim and society at large. Following an offender’s release, regardless of their crime, there is a high likelihood that the offender will recidivate if they are not successfully integrated back into society. Specifically, it is often assumed that sex offenders are highly likely to recidivate and that they will continue to be perpetrators of sexual offenses.
“Although concerning sexual practices between adults and children have existed throughout history and across cultures, whether such behavior was conceived of and defined as ‘abuse’ has been dependent on the societal values of the particular period” (Denov, 2004). In today’s society, sex offending has become an increasingly, concerning phenomenon that individuals must become more aware of. Although generally regarded as a male phenomenon, over time, female perpetrators have become equally important as male perpetrators. Due to the lack of public awareness, female sexual predators go unreported. As a result, society must become more aware of female sexual perpetrators, as many incidents of females assaulting both young men and women have gone unreported for some time.
