A few years ago in 1807, congress had passed the Embargo Act, an act that forbids foreign trade. Today, a few years from that day in 1807 we look back on the preoccupations that have occurred because of the act. In just one year we saw our U.S exports decline by $84,000,000. We started with $109,000,000 and ended with $25,000,000.Thousands of Americans have turned to smuggling. The Embargo has trigger a serious Economic Depression and not much can save us right now.
January of 1959, Cuba welcomed the first of the Cuban Revolution, and had become a communist country under the rule of Fidel Castro as mentioned in “Document D”. The US, against communism, became much involved in Cuba during 1962, when
Learning from my teacher I found that you cannot travel there unless it’s with a school. Closing off Cuba to deal with their own problems today. Reading more into the article our president explained that Cuba has done “very bad stuff”. However, this is just how the US works because we have
Apparently Cuba holds a huge grudge and forgets nothing. I personally believe that they will continue to collect intelligence on the United States, just as we do of them. We are a very close neighboring country that has completely opposite views of them. We have a long history of supporting their dissident
The United States wanted sole control over the island of Cuba in order to grow the American economy, and the congress stated that President William
only increased because of the Bay of Pigs Invasion. Because the CIA hurt Cuba and the U.S.’s foreign relationship, Cuba turned to the Soviet Union in the Cold War. Cuba’s ties with the U.S.S.R. drove the U.S. even further away from working with Cuba and created later tensions like the Cuban missile crisis. With more time, the U.S. and Cuba relations worsened, and it all started because of the CIA’s plan to overthrow Castro. Only now in 2016, has a U.S. president visited Cuba.
United States has always had a difficult time agreeing with Cuba and therefore, the Embargo Act was passed and since October 19, 1960 Cuba is not able to trade with other countries unless it is for medicine or food. The embargo is known as a blockade in which Cuba was not allowed to communicate with other countries under American jurisdiction. Many people believe the ban should be lifted and others think it should remain the way it is. The current president Barack Obama wants to lift the ban and wants to open relations with Cuba. The republican and democratic candidates for 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton both have very opposing claims when it concerns the Embargo Act on Cuba.
Cuba became a communist country under the dictatorship of Fidel Castro, the united states did attempt to stop it but they failed. (Doc D) The United States late on discovered that there was a range of nuclear missiles sites in Cuba, the United States responded to this by announcing a quarantine. (Doc D) A quarantine is a place of isolation in which people or even animals are placed after coming from somewhere else, this was usually practiced to stop pesticides and other infections.
In January of 1959, Fidel Castro came to power. The United States’ attempted to overthrow Castro with the Bay of Pigs Invasion, a CIA operation to overthrow Fidel Castro by landing 1200 disgruntled Cuban exiles in the Bay of Pigs. The attempt fails miserably and is a huge embarrassment for Kennedy, who then vows to bring down Castro. After the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion, Castro looked to the Soviet Union for protection. According to document D in 1962 “The soviets began shipping 40,000 troops, 60 missiles and 158 nuclear warheads to communist Cuba.”
On February 7th, 1962 it was extended in which the embargo included all items and imports. American citizens weren’t even able to do business with Cuba. Although there may be many difference or similarities, the United States has had an ongoing embargo with Cuba, President Obama wants to lift the embargo and open relations with Cuba and Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton's both has views on opening trade with Cuba. Hillary Clinton wanted to call a meeting for her campaign to lift the embargo against Cuba. In her campaign she states, "...will highlight that Republican arguments against increased engagement are part of failed policies of the past and contend that we must look to the future in order to advance a core set of values and interests to engage with Cubans and address human rights abuses" says CNN.
It is true that Spain was treating Cubans exceptionally harshly. However, after the United States took control of Cuba, it did little to ameliorate the treatment of the Cubans, although before and during the war the U.S. government had promised the American public and Spain that it would. The true drive for taking Cuba away from Spanish control was to guarantee implementing the Monroe Doctrine ensuring America’s hegemonic expansion. America’s true motivations can be seen in the Platt Amendment truly giving any freedom the United States had promised Cuba into the hands of the American government. The fact was that America was not ridding Cuba of an oppressor.
Firstly, Cuba and the Soviets already had a very bad relationship with the United States. Research shows that, “Another key factor in the Soviet missile scheme was the hostile relationship between the United States and Cuba.” (“Cuban Missile Crisis”) The quote makes the statement in the second sentence true. The United States did not agree on how the government in Cuba was run and tried to overthrow it before but did not win.
Another reason why we started the war was because the U.S support of Cuba’s

Late president Nikita Khrushchev (from USSR), agreed to assist Castro and took immediate action. He installed missiles in Cuba, which the US thought was a threat to the security of their nation. In summary, I think that this was a defensive move by the Cubans. I most definitely agree with
