The Industrial Revolution was a horrific time in the 1700s by the fact that it caused bad pollution and children would be worn out at the end of their work day. The greatest aspect of industrialization was that the kids and adults had good surroundings. “Of these there are 500 children who are entirely fed, clothed, and educated by Mr.Dale” (Document 6). The quote is evidence that shows the kids were well cared for.
I choose to defend the prompt of my choice in more detail. In the 1870's, as the Civil War receded into memory, the United States became a leading Industrial power. Advances in technology and new access to the immense resources of the North American continent drove American Industrialization. This industrialization brought the growth of new American cities such as Chicago, and the arrival of a flood of immigrants from all over Europe to man the factories. During the Gilded Age, businessmen reaped enormous profits from this new economy.
My arguments, observations and opinions over chapter 9 are very strong. During the period of the economic transformation many events had occurred. This chapter demonstrates the power that the American Industrial Revolution had. Not to mention, how the Market Revolution reflected the increased output of farms and factories, the entrepreneurial activities of traders and merchants. In addition, to the creation of a transportation network of roads, canals, and railroads.
The Industrial Revolution brought about significant changes to the workplace. In Document 1, Thomas Bernhard describes the working conditions of children employed in Mr. Dale's cotton mills. While children in other factories faced harsh working conditions, Mr. Dale's factory had special regulations to protect the health and morals of those under his protection. Out of nearly 3,000 children employed in the mills from 1785 to 1797, only fourteen have died, and not one has been the object of judicial punishment.
One of the negative factors regarding the Industrial Revolution in our society is child labor. Children were taken out of there homes to work in factories and farms.
During the “Cottage Industry”, children often worked on their parent’s farm or in a family business. However, once all factories were built in, children were encouraged to join the workforce in the cities. The unfortunate truth was that children were a lot easier to take advantage of. In other words, they would be mistreated, paid a lot less, and work in unsafe environments.

The industrialization brung many inventions that helped the U.S., during the mid 1800's and early 1900's. These inventions are still being used to this day. Advantages, some inventions influenced others to create their own, they did cause bad to use them, that made things in America corrupt, they began to do good things though just to stay in power no matter the cost. One advantage was the things people were making helped education and the economy.
The British Industrial Revolution was the era where a series of technological discoveries increased the production rate of manufacturing, thus increasing the demand for products. This left the leading companies at the time looking for a way to quicken their production rate. The solution came in very small packages… children. They were a fundamental part of the human workforce that powered the Industrial Revolution. However, they were often treated in the most brutal ways possible.
In regular factories, there were many risks, especially since child labor made up most of the work force, there were many accidents because the kids would be careless, or get stuck, or multiple other reasons. In a picture taken in 1912 in a textile factory, two children are seen working the machines. They’re both 10 years or younger, and standing on the machines barefoot. The children could easily slip and fall, get their fingers or toes crushed, or numerous other deadly accidents. A census from 1890 showed that over one million children between the ages of 10-15 years old worked in America, and that number increased drastically, by two million, in 1910 (Davis, “Progressive Era Reform”).
Something that was good about the industrial revolution was that there was more workers and people could get payed more. Things that were bad was that little kids could. That’s bad because kid get hurt for example, for kids who worked on farms would ride on horse rakes and easily fall off and get crushed. Kids would get overworked after working 12 hours a day.
I think Apple should be strict about following the labor rules and policy. I believe this because there company brand is on the line. By allowing Hon Have to have sweatshop labor conditions in China, people will hear about that and not want to buy Apple Product. I think that they company should enforce the US labor standards since the company is distributing in the US. I think they should imply these standards so they stand for what apple is about which is a responsible corporation that is environmental concerned and labor friendly.
The Industrial Revolution undoubtedly lifted America to an unparalleled age of innovation. This introduction of new sources of energy and novel inventions certainly improved production rates, but lowered the quality of life for many. For example, to keep up with the increasing demands of this era, the use of child labor became commonplace and consequently had a lasting impact on America. These sad times allowed for the emergence of courageous individuals rose to force legislation to try and end child labor in America.
