“That’s what life is all about, isn’t it? Choices, informed decisions...what I do not respect is having my civil liberties stripped away.”, stated by Karin Klein in the short article, Ban the Ban!. One of the many values of the American life, is freedom, but to have options of what you can drink, to be taken away from you isn’t honestly moral. The soda ban, isn’t a voted decision, but more so a individually chosen decision that will not only affect the citizens of New York, but the businesses as well. Mayor Bloomberg runs the Board of Health; and who better to decide whether the ban is valid than the Board? As the Board makes the decision, it is also under the control of the Mayor. Buying two 16 oz. sodas, is just as easy. So what is so impactful to remove a 32oz. portion cup? The short article, “Soda’s a problem but…” states, “If people are so helpless against soda, the mayor’s edict would be even more meaningless because people would simply buy two 16-ounce cups”. Consistently attempting to reach out to make this law passed, is time being used by Bloomberg, which could be used otherwise to further look into what his city truly needs. No, instead he decides to waste his time on trying to pass a unuseful law that contradicts itself. Taking away business away, from local convenience stores, is basically what Bloomberg is doing without knowledge. “Convenience stores such as 7-eleven are overseen by the state and would be exempt, but a Burger King across the street would be restricted”, stated in the short article. The busy people of of New York, misusing time to walk across the street just to buy the size drink they are restricted from buying from hundreds of other restaurants/stores.
