Thanks to the efforts of a Putnam County Highway worker, a 25-year-old woman survived a February 11 crash. The woman was rounding an icy curve when she lost control of her vehicle, going down an embankment, hitting into a tree, and flipping her vehicle into a foot of water. The woman was upside-down in the icy water for at least five minutes before the man saw the vehicle and acted quickly to save the woman. While a vehicle submerged in water is one of the less common car accident scenarios, it is important to know how to safely exit your vehicle when in the water. First, remain calm and act quickly.
Outliers "It's not enough to ask what successful people are like. It is only by asking where they are from that we can unravel the logic behind who succeeds and who doesn't." Malcom Gladwell (2008.) The book Outliers by Malcom Gladwell is split up into two parts; Part: One being people called “Outliers” they are defined by Gladwell as people who do not fit into our normal understanding of achievement. Part: Two is about “Legacy” and the effect that has on becoming remembered.
First Responders James Cross Intro to Homeland Defense Professor Kirchgraber August 30, 2015 Abstract 9/11 is a day that many will never forget. Terrorist high jacked four planes and flew them into predetermined locations. 3000 people died in The World Trade Center alone. Several of these were first responders.
Even though the emergency responders for the world trade center on 9/11 were able to save a lot of lives they still had some flaws in their plan which if avoided could have reduced the number of responders life lost. The biggest flaw that caused a lot of deaths was the lack of inter-department communication and collaboration. The two largest emergency department’s that responded to the tragic event were the police department and the fire department and lack of team work led to certain causalities. For example, according to The New York Times, twenty-one minutes before the building fell, warnings were captured on police radio tapes which was then relayed to police officers and lead to escape of most of them.
The flights that changed america 9/11/01 was a scary day for a lot of people. Parents were scared for there kids and, a lot of people thought they were going to be in the area next. People had questions like, who did this? How many people taken from the families and others? But most people don’t even think about how did 9/11 happened.
I expect to find there was a drop in tourists visiting New York after 9/11 as people were fearful another attack might take place in the city and I expect that tourist numbers to the city dropped in the months directly after before starting to pick up again. I presume this was a tough time economically for hotels and many of the shops dependent on tourism. I expect airlines suffered from large losses as people were afraid to fly until changes in security were made. I expect to find airlines had to drop the prices of flights significantly to attract customers.
This scenario reminds us that although something is dangerous, or unnecessary, doesn’t mean it is wrong to do. This scenario was all about having the courage, bravery, and empathy that makes one a good person towards
9-12: Post-9/11 America “doug robinson: before and after 9/11” “9/11: the week before - the atlantic” “while america slept: the true story of 9/11 - NBC” “9 things you should know about the aftermath of 9/11” .hunter wade. How have the events of 9/11 and its aftermath shaped what it means to be an American? Consider the actions the government has taken after these events, how it changed people 's lives and how you think of yourself living in a post-9/11 America. “Consider that before September 11, 2001, there was no cohesive system in place to vet passengers in advance of flying; only limited technologies in place for uncovering a wide array of threats to passengers or aircraft; no comprehensive federal requirements to screen checked or carry-on baggage; and only minimal in-flight security on most flights” People stood frozen in front of their TVs for hours watching in disbelief as replays showed airlines fly into buildings and skyscrapers tumble before 9/11 you could stroll to the gate at the airport without a ticket and greet family and friends as they arrived or see them off as they
Most always, in order for something to fail, a chain of events must occur first. The Founding Fathers of the United States created amendments, the Bill of Rights, Checks and Balances;and many more programs to adhere to the order and avoid any type of collapse internally. In a thriving civilization and more specifically; an empire, one of the most important elemental makeup is the economy. Without a solid economy-a civilization whether large or small could never thrive.
The money spent on protecting our country has went up greatly of the years since 9-11.(Green, 2014, para. 7) 9-11 made people to question if our country is really secure. This caused the government to make a lot of polices to help make our country safe for the people living there. These polices focused on security, immigration, defense and etc. One main focus of the government was security.
Our Innocent Lives At Stake A drone strike can kill a person in one room of a house, also people in the room next door, to even across the street like a school. There has been cases where the drones have had civilians attacked while along the intended target. These were all unplanned deaths, all innocent deaths. I oppose the use of drones in warfare. From all the drone strikes killing innocent people or putting their lives at stake and ours, is a horrendous movement, that’s why in my opinion I think we shouldn’t have drones.
The attack on 9/11 was an atrocity. Many innocent people died. Many people lost their loved ones. According CNN.com, the terrorists hijacked four airplanes and crashed them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon Building in Washington, and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
He reported that their boat had gotten pushed away in the storm, and rather than wait the storm out they decided to try to get it back. They paddled their canoe to the shore where their boat had washed up and their canoe immediately blew up onto shore. Being in their mid-70s, there was no way that they could have gotten back to their home through 50 mph winds. So instead, they laid down in their bigger boat and hoped to be rescued. “Apparently he had died first.
