What are the issues your group is concerned with? Veterans of Foreign Wars is concerned in ensuring that veterans are respected for their service to the United States. That they receive entitlements and that they are recognized for the sacrifices they and their families make on behalf of the United States. The VFW has worked on a G.I. Bill for the 20th Century, they have also had a hand in the development of the national cemetery system. They have fought for compensation for veterans of the Vietnam War that were exposed to Agent Orange as well as for veterans that that were diagnosed with Gulf War Syndrome. In 2008 the GI Bill for the 21st Century was passed; which gives expanded educational benefits to America’s active duty service members and members of the Guard and Reserves who are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. The VFW has also fought to improve VA medical center services for women veterans. They are considered a neutral organization but the ideology that they pursue most aligns with the Republican political party. Although the VFW doesn’t support the candidates with monetary donations to campaigns, the endorsement that it does provide is a major contribution to their campaign. Veterans are a strong voting group, as well as veteran families, this provides candidate’s access to a large voting group that considers the VFW endorsement as an important factor when voting. The VFW seeks to influence the Department of Defense’s policies to ensure that enlisted military members and military veterans are being treated properly and that they do not fall through the cracks.
