In the gigantic pumpkin patch, the smallest of them all lay among the rest. The others pick on this little pumpkin, his name is George. He is the kindest pumpkin there is. Ralph, Emma, and Tom are the other pumpkins that grow nearby. They are much larger than George. This year, George wants to be one of those pumpkins. Everyone laughs at him and tell him he will never be one. He tries to tell them that one day he will be one of the great pumpkins. The others always say to him that he will never be one. Ralph has already been chosen, along with Emma and Tom. George suddenly becomes confused about why he hasn’t been picked yet. The trolley comes by every hour with a haul of people and every time, George doesn’t get chosen. He looks up at the sky and a red ribbon is hanging off of his stem. That night George sits in the silence and suddenly falls asleep. In the morning, the workers come by and open up the stands. Yelling comes from a distance and George is in the arms of two humans. They take him to the main building and he gets placed right in the middle of the other pumpkins. “ Is that you George?” Ralph asks from below. Is surprise George replies excitedly, “ Ralph! It’s been forever!” he jumps up and down in joy. “ Look, you are the biggest pumpkin out here!” Ralph exclaims, “I’m sorry we ever doubted you,” he apologizes. “ It’s alright, I was small anyway,” George replies back and he smiles. The group of pumpkins get pictures every day from people who come to see the great pumpkin. George is happy being able to be with his friends again after a long time.
