Louise M. Porter was an author, historian, and a founding member of the St. Joseph Historical Society. She was the society’s president for the first seven years of its existence. She was instrumental in the establishment of the bylaws, goals, rules and procedures that made the society function effectively. She had a passion for the rich history of the West Florida area and Port St. Joe in particular. She dedicated many years of her life in researching and editing the manuscript for this book.
In this quote it is showing that they have gotten closer because Maureen called him a friend and she also teaches him how to write a haiku. At the end of the story they have gotten so close that they are practically best friends now. She helped him do well in literacy and they talk back and forth for a long time. When Joe gets a C- on his project and his parents ground him, Maureen talks to his parents and they unground him which makes Joe very happy. It shows how happy he is in the story when he tells her what happened.
Vinny is scared because he is thinking that he is going to find the dead boy’s body in the water. Joe-Boy is childish because on page 4, Joe-Boy says ‘’ Hey, maybe you gonna be the one to find his body’’. On page 8 it says that Vinny held his breath because he thought Starlene was going to die. Vinny is doubtful of jumping because on page 11 Vinny whispered to himself ‘’ I can’t .” Joe-Boy is mean but Vinny is weak.
When Vinny’s mom tells him not to go to the pond, he disobeyed his mom and went to the pond and felt guilty. When Starlene got ready to jump Vinny wanted to hug because he thought she would die. Vinny doesn’t obviously fight because Joe-Boy was teasing him and he didn’t do anything about it.
Also some of the members in the gang have been jumped by Socs, who are rich well treated people. In the beginning of the book the author wrote about Johnny getting jumped and beat up almost to death. Johnny and Ponyboy go to the movies with two Socs. Johnny and Ponyboy stay late at night in the empty parking lot. They fell asleep and got home later than
" Valence claimed to have sent the boys home angrily. “Marcia and I were enjoying our night when a friend of Ponyboy’s began chatting us up in a very rude manner. Ponyboy and Johnny stuck up for us. They were very chivalrous,
He is alone; he has no job opportunity in Washington because Roy has died. But Joe is happy. Joe has finally faced unlocked that “hidden thing” and he has embraced it. Joe’s secret exists no more, and he gains that confidence and sureness that he was missing. Although Joe loses everyone else, he finds himself.
He is the man who fills the voids of loneliness and love, and continues her development as a woman. Joe’s impact on Janie’s emotional growth is that he emotionally abused her to the point where she wouldn’t talk anymore and he only wanted a pretty wife/show wife because he was the mayor of Eatonville. She felt like she had lost her identity because the people would call her Mrs. Mayor Starks and would never use her real name. She also feels like she lost her identity because she always listened to what Joe had to say about her appearance and whatever he suggested she would do it. Joe also had an impact on Janie’s physical growth is that he also physically abused her when every should would do the slightest thing wrong.
The fact that the story happens based on a traditional father and son camping trip shows their strong bond. The story does not point out the conversation between Joe and his father; for a little while his father didn’t say a thing. Then he said why sure go along Joe (Trumbo).The unknown dialogue gives a picture of the situation the father is facing while Joe is mentioning Bill Harper. This also shows how Joe is growing up and viewing this place differently and wanting to experience differently. The place that represents Joe’s childhood will covert him into a young man as he changes the tradition.
In the short story the Ravine you will read about Joe-boy and Vinny's differences Vinny has a lot of differences here are some he is single He doesn't want to be at the Ravine because a boy just died there 2 weeks ago he tried to impress his friends by going to the Ravine . Vinny was really scared . Vinny didn’t jump in the pond rate away because he was thinking about the dead boy's body because he doesn't know if the body is down in the water and he would be jumping off a 50 foot ledge. Joe-boy and Starlene seid the stone goddess took the dead boy. Joe-boy doesn't have a lot of differences like vinny but here are a couple of examples.
The Things They Carried is a book by Tim O’Brien, who appears as a character in this fictional book as a sort of self-insert in this fictional story. The book has 232 pages, and is divided into several unnumbered chapters. It was published in 1990 by Houghton Mufflin, and was printed in the USA. The story goes in a rather confusing and awkward order, rather than telling the story in a linear passage of time, each chapter takes place during a different part of O’Brien’s life. It’s written from O’Brien’s point of view many years after the Vietnam war.
so maybe Vinny and Joe-boy are good friends. Joe-boy wants vinny to jump but Vinny is scared of hights but Joe-boy is not. Vinny seems scared of the dead boy and Joe boy seems fearless or not scared of the deadboy. Joe-boy and Vinny have some similarities. The story around the beginning says Joe-boy and Vinny are fifteen.
They both went through the same childhood, but handled it differently. The narrator was more mature and had set goals. While Sonny, fell into the depth of his feeling and influences. The narrator cares for his brother and feels as if he has failed him. While his brother feels like he could never truly explain anything to the narrator.
Ponyboy lived with his two brothers Darry and Sodapop after his parents were killed in a car accident. Ponyboy had some friends in the gang: Steve, Two-Bit, Dally but his best friend was a boy named Johnny who was considered the gang`s mascot. Ponyboy was a boy who always wanted to be tough but an accident that happened in the story might make him change of mind on what he wanted to be. He also finds a way of how to finish the gang that was taking place from many tima.
I was at the movies with Marcia today, and I met these 2 boys , Johnny and Ponyboy. They were awfully nice to me, and though’ they don’t look like it, the two of them are better than most boys I’ve met in the past. Although they claim to their fellow greasers they picked us up, Marcia and I knew better. I was surprised when they told us they were so young, and what's more astonishing was they looked opposite of age! The kid dark skinned boy named Johnny who saved me from the wild boy Dally was 16 years old.
