The Revolutionary War was one of the most notable and interesting wars in history because of the odds that were against the Americans from the beginning, and the fact that they overcome them the way they did. It was a war that was fought with great courage and spirit. From the beginning, the balance of power seemed to be greatly weighted in Britain’s favor. They had an army and many well trained military commanders. The Americans on the other hand, only had local militias and a barely trained Continental Army. Despite all this though, the Americans managed to defeat the British with flying colors. While the colonists only had to focus on the war, the British needed to make sure to maintain their strength around the entire world. They could not afford to pour all their resources into fighting the colonists, meanwhile that’s all the colonists needed to focus on. Also associated with this, was the excessive amount of money the British were spending on the war. They were already in debt from the Seven Years War, and were not expecting the fight with the colonists to last as long as it did. Finally, the fact that Britain had enemies around the world was definitely a great benefit to the colonists throughout the war. They got the support of outside powers, the most notable of these being Spain and France. They were supplied with money and supplies that they needed to fight.
