It was only in the 11th Century when Vikings that lived in the area considered themselves Russians. A turn in history in 1922 was when a young man from Bolshevik, Russia known, as Joseph Stalin was a General Secretary of the Communist Party brought together the first congress in Moscow on December 30, 1922. The Soviet Republic of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine agreed to form a union, which was known as the Union of Soviet Socialists Republic, on July 6, 1923 the USSR was official. Joseph Stalin a well-known figure in Russia began to gain ground in power through his inner circle connections. The fall of past leaders only paved the way to Stalin controlling the country, becoming the first communist nation under his control. The rise of Stalin brought 200 percent increase in industrialization and 50 percent in agriculture as the years passed by, the future looked bright for the USSR. Assassinations where a common tactic used by Stalin to fend away new up and comers in Russia. As the Leader of Russia, the only threat to the country was that of its neighbor, Germany in which Adolf Hitler was the leader. A pact with the Germans was signed so no boundaries would be crossed through conflict allowing Russia to sit back and watch as the world was in constant battle with each other.
