A tough day In Robert Frost’s poem “ The Road Not Taken”, the speaker is recalling a tough experience of making an important decision between two options alike. The speaker contemplates two roads on his or her path and is undecided which one to take. The scenario of the roads is portrayed as one- day in fall in which the speaker crushes with a fork in the middle of the wood. The speaker describes the poem with a contemplative tone, with a feeling of not regret, and with a personal reflection. The contemplation of the roads by the speaker represents a thoughtful intention to figure out which way would be much convenient and effortless. In line 14 and 15, “[y]et knowing how way leads onto way, / [I] doubted if I should ever come back,” the speaker believes that there is not a way back to the initial point because everything has changed. Also, Robert Frost remarks this part of the poem as a relative point of view of the reality. In lines 11 and 12, “ [a]n both that morning equally lay, / [i]n leaves not step had trodden black,” suggest to the reader that the speaker is trying to analyze the two roads alike, so he or she has to take a decision without remorse. This personal reflection is a desire of the speaker to come back to the past to choosing the other alternative and see it how would had been his or her life. In line 19 and 20, “ [I] took the one less traveled by, / [a]nd that has made of the difference,” the speaker seemed to be proud of taking the less traveled road because that was the more plausible option at the moment. Robert Frost narrates the poem in first person, which makes it more reflective and personal. The poem provides to the reader a personal perspective of making a tough decision without regrets. In addition, the reflective quality of the poem shows off the deep necessity of the speaker to express freely about this crucial life
