It is agreeable that practicing counseling from the western perspective, therapist rejects the notion that female supposed to be submissive and reserved to the males. Further couple in a relationship regardless of ethnicity and family orientation should make every effort to achieve equilibrium in their everyday life. However, within the Latino culture, collaboration, loyalty, and respect are put emphasis within the family core value. In addition, a hierarchy of authority is set giving decision making privileges to the elder, family members, parents, and certainly the males. Within the family core are clearly defined gender roles. Example, fathers assume primary responsibility over the family, while mothers are nurturing and self-sacrificing, submissive in caring for their husbands and children. The reason why I ask such question is because if you embrace a belief that you “I personally feel very strongly” profoundly concern about, wouldn’t that potentially minimize your competency in providing services to the client, or otherwise, your ‘potential stereotypes, biases, and culture bound attitudes toward Latino clients (or any minorities clients) will make it difficult for you, if not impossible to serve them
