Everyone has a unique family. For example, the Joad family in “The Grapes of Wrath” is comparable to my family in many ways.
The Joad family is what some might refer to as a typical family of the 1930’s. There is a working father who is head of the house and its decisions. There is the stay at home mom who cooks, cleans, and looks after the children. The family is comprised of six children of various ages and character. Within the household there is also some extended family.
Today, families have much more variety than they did roughly 90 years ago. I have two working parents, both teachers, however my mom still does the more “feminine” responsibilities around the house, like cooking and cleaning in the same manner as Ma Joad, while my dad

The power role the decision maker in my own family is certainly my mother. She determines the schedule, she orchestrates the chore distribution throughout the family, and the appropriate time to watch television. She is usually the person that us kids will go to ask questions and for permission to do things. Although my mom makes most of the decisions for the rules at home, my dad is the one who deals with all the financial stuff. He is very good at figuring things out so I can usually go to him for help with fixing something. You might say that my mom is more strict and would like everything to go her way while my dad is more layed back and tries to compromise to make everyone happy.
I have noticed that within my family the decisions are made to please the needs of the one who made them to help the family as they see fit.
In the media families are, still, mostly portrayed with a working father, a stay at home mom and a few children. Like most families today, my family does not really fall under that category.
