The Salvation Army’s Immense Impact A charitable organization is a nonprofit organization that provides relief to oppressed individuals who lack shelter, food, health care or education in their country. In 1865, the Salvation Army was founded by a Methodist Church in order to help the homeless. Ever since that year, the Salvation Army has spent their time helping the homeless. People who have helped the Salvation Army range from ordinary citizens to famous celebrities. However, the Doctors Without Borders charity is an organization that harms many doctors and citizens in the USA. According to the Encyclopedia of Religion, the Salvation Army has “changed a number of lives of those who were homeless” and the homeless people that have no jobs transfer to the people who have jobs now and have a stable future ahead of them (McKinley). The Salvation Army can change a person’s way of life and the person who has gone through this rough patch of their life, can enjoy what life was really meant for once again, to be happy and joyous. If one person can change one person’s life forever, think about how many more lives can be positively affected if everyone else in America donated money to the Salvation Army. According to the organization of the Salvation Army, there is a new project they have started up to help the homeless, which is called “Project Hope. Project Hope stands for Homeless Outreach to Place and Empower and this project has helped hundreds of people every year” (Salvation Army). This project has helped a number of homeless people off the streets and into a more compatible future for the homeless to have. The NPR states that the Doctors without Borders organization, many people are actually harmed by the doctors when the doctors come back to the United States, because some doctors will carry diseases from the country they just came from and bring in that disease and infect most of our population (Taylor). …show more content…

According to the Medecins Sans Frontieres Company, the Doctors Without Borders organization “has the responsibility to protect” and help oppressed individuals, like refugees, who need medical support and help save the lives of those who are injured overseas with the money donated to them (Weissman). However, the Doctors Without Borders financial statements states that the company is making a profit off of the money donated instead of making a difference to the international community. According to the Doctors without Borders financial statement, the organization has a “revenue of $345,784,546 and an expense of $283,552,858” (Doctors Without Borders Finance Report). The expense included the money going into the area Doctors Without Borders’ main goal, but this shows this organization is making a profit of $62,231,688. According to the financial summary of the Salvation Army, this organization has a “revenue of $2,926,856 and an expense of $3,536,977” (Salvation army Finance Report). The Salvation is making a loss of $610,121. The Doctors without Borders organization is doing this for a profit, but the Salvation Army puts the people first instead of the money profited from these donations other than putting money first instead of the people, which the Doctors without Borders organization does without any
