In “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hearst, the narrator abuses his brother Doodle. For example, the brother made plans to kill Doodle by smothering him with a pillow because Doodle is an invalid. Although younger children are generally selfish and only think about what they want, or in this case, the brother not wanting someone disabled as a brother, they usually do not start plotting to murder someone. The brother is probably someone who is naturally cruel inside, as most children would just complain to their parents or attempt to wish the unwanted object away.
