in 2004 the film the school of rock dewey fin (jack black) is a musician that is apart of a rock band. he is kicked out of the band and receives a phone call from a school saying they need a substitute teacher. dewey acts as if he is a teacher and takes the job. at the school dewey sees the class that he is teaching they have a musical talent. so he trains them up for a competition called battle of the band.

In the opening scene Dewey fin is portrayed as a self-obsessed “loser”. Who is trying hard to get everyone’s attention? This is clearly shown by the way other people react to what Dewey is doing. The crowd are not paying attention to what the band are playing and the close up on the text message saying “these guys suck. Leave?” confirms that the audience does not like Dewey’s performance. The stage dive that Dewey attempts to do at the end of the scene is a complete failure and this makes him look like even more of a failure.
