James Patterson’s book, Maximum Ride, is quite the journey. It is a sensational and conflicting story that definitely the reader intrigued. It is about six young kids who finally escaped from a lab where they were experimented on and were brought there after being kidnapped. The six kids are; Max, who has the leader role in the group, Fang, Iggy, Gasman, Angel and Nudge. They have grown up together and are on the mission to find their parents.
In John Grisham’s incredible novel Bleachers the inspiring man Eddie Rake acts as a great man by helping make Messina into a great place in order to create success for the entire town. The school and community develop into known places because of the great man Eddie Rake bringing the entire town together on Friday nights. Lives of his players transform completely from the wise words and actions from their great coach, Eddie Rake. Eddie Rake manages to touch each and every one of his players in different ways through his teachings and doings proving his greatness. Eddie Rake loves all his players and shows love towards Neely Crenshaw by visiting him in the hospital after his career ending injury.

Broken Chain by Gary Soto is one of the two stories that I picked, the other being Seventh Grade still by Gary Soto have lots of differences and lots of similarities you notice only when you compare them. Both Broken Chain and Seventh grade have many thing alike, even though they are two unique stories. Both have the main characters ,Victor and Alfonso, who want to impress a girl they know and like. But still they run into some hard times trying. They embarrass themselves in the process too.
The term “diaspora” refers to an individual’s exit from his or her own home. In the story “The Money”, by Junot Diaz, the author describes how his mother sends money back to her parents in the Dominican Republic, where Junot’s lived before their immigration to the United States. His mother sends the money out of guilt for leaving her parents and home country behind, and because Junot’s grandparents need the money in order to survive. Though I lived in the United States for my whole life, my departure from my small suburban town in Ohio and my journey towards established myself in the Bronx, New York City could be considered my own diaspora.

In the words of Steve Lopez, “You're only as good or bad as your latest attempt to make some connection with the world.” The novel, The Soloist, by Steve Lopez is an insight to Lopez’s time helping and connecting with Nathaniel Ayers, a homeless schizophrenic. When Lopez meets Nathaniel he is awed by his musical talent and soon discovers he once attended Julliard, a prestigious school of performing arts. Lopez’s story was transformed into a film produced in 2008. Lopez’s character in the book and film share similarities and differences in his personal life, attitude towards Nathaniel, and struggles that contribute to the overall theme of the novel.
In the book “The Island” by Gary Paulsen, fifteen year-old Will Neuton is portrayed as an introspective character because he’s constantly having conversations with himself in his head about ongoing situations, he comes off as “timid” or even “shy” with most people not including family, and above all, because he enjoys planning and thinking about all the things surrounding him to better find his peace and happiness. The two stories, Drumbeats and Bullets and The Drummer Boy of Shiloh have many comparisons and contrasts. One story is mostly fact based, while the other is more of a story. Both stories have facts about the life in war as a drummer boy. Johnny Clem (from Drumbeats and Bullets) and Joby (from The Drummer boy of Shiloh) can relate in many different ways.they also have factors that make them very different.
Monday, April 7th, 2007 the day 30 plus people died and hundreds of students and staff mourned. Just the day after, all Virginia Tech’s students and staff gathered together to hear comforting words about the recurring question of “What will Virginia Tech do next”. The ‘We are Virginia Tech” poem was written by Nikki Giovanni, who was a teacher of Seung-Hui Cho (The perpetrator) and many other students of VTech. Nikki made this poem in a matter of 12 hours and read it aloud the day after the incident, the incident being the motivation for the poem. Nikki Giovanni writes this poem to address the question that also comforts and gives VTech staff and students hope for the future of VTech.
