The poem, Useless Boys,is one that portrays a feeling of indignation, rebellion and finally, understanding by two boys who grew up with bitter views of their fathers’ onerous jobs. The narrator believes that the only reason his father stays at his job is for the money. In his naivety the son does not realize that at times living selfishly is the way things have to be. Sometimes commitments are made in a self-sacrificial and cowardly manner. No matter how “wrecking” his father’s career, he stays in order to provide for his family.
Story arc is driven by conflict, this literary analysis is all about the explosion of conflict and other literary elements rampant in “I’ll Eat What He’s Wearing”. This short story is part of a much bigger book called “Me Talk Pretty One Day”. In this short story by David Sedaris, his dad, Lou Sedaris, is the main focus. The reason he is the protagonist is because he loves to hide food and wait until it’s spoiled and then eat it. He also buys the almost spoiled foods when he goes to the store, which is fine if it gets cooked immediately, however his dad would take it home and either hide it or freeze it.
The 1970s were a rough year for African-Americans, still fighting for social and political rights in the United States. Consequently, women still did not receive equal rights. However, in 1972, “Congress approved the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the Constitution, which reads: ‘Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex’ (History.com Staff).” Out of the thirty-eight necessary states only twenty-two ratified it right away, it was relieving for the moment because the feminist advocates had been trying to be ratified since 1923. The First African-American woman elected into Congress was Shirley Chisholm.
The next day he wakes and finds another sick person is his father’s cot and he knows that his father is dead. Since his father is gone, he does not have anyone in his life that he is certain is
Who would think a 10-day suspension from high school would ignite the hunger within Chancelor Bennett, or Chance the Rapper, to become the artist he is today? His teachers doubted his aspirations to be a musician, but in this small window of time he embarked on a journey to prove himself, thus the mixtape 10 Day was born. But he didn’t stop there. Chance the Rapper would go on to dilute the stagnant pool of rap and hip-hop to reflect important issues and emit a sound that uplifts and inspires. Songs that spread good vibes about love, worth, and respect, like his song “Everybody is something”, where he sings, “everybody is somebody’s everything, noboby’s nothing”.
Always Something More Beautiful “Always Something More Beautiful” is a poem by Stephen Dunn, born in Forest Hills, NY. I got attracted to this poem, because it reminded me when I was at the Regionals for a Cross-Country race and reflected how humans’ life can be fair or beautiful. The cluster “time, clock, finish” clarifies for a measurement that refers to a competitive race.
He departs from his father and falls asleep deeply. When he wakes up, he is unable to locate him and makes a feeble attempt to find him since he has the idea that perhaps being alone will boost his chances of surviving. Thankfully, he finds him, calling out, "Father! For so long, I've been seeking for you. Where were you?
Poetry Analysis Once the poem “History Lesson” was written numerous poetry foundations celebrated it for many reasons. “History Lesson” not only makes an impact on literature today it has also impacted people also. This poem inspires people and moves them to the point to where they can find a personal connection to the poem itself and to the writer. Not only does it hold emotional value for those who were victimized and those whose family were victimized by the laws of segregation, but the poem is also celebrated for its complexity. The poem uses many techniques to appeal to the reader.
At that moment, he heard the door. Not the doorbell but a series of soft, polite raps, almost apologetic about the late hour. Every house has a logic, and its laws are more eloquent at night, when things occur without palliative noises. He didn’t look at his watch or jump, or suspect that he was hearing things. He simply got up from his chair and walked toward the door without turning on any lights; when he found himself standing face-to-face with his father.
Hanging Fire depicts the speaker's struggle with insecurity and isolation. The structure and content of the poem reflect her discomfort and insecurity, as each line ends in a state of limbo. The speaker feels neglected and abandoned, uncertain about her future and whether she has the support of those around her. She longs for emotional connection, but also fears rejection and worries about what others think of her. Her fear of judgment is evident when she is ashamed of her appearance.
The poem “A Story” by Li-Young Lee depicts the complex relationship between a boy and his father when the boy asks his father for a story and he can’t come up with one. When you’re a parent your main focus is to make your child happy and to meet all the expectations your child meets. When you come to realize a certain expectation can’t satisfy the person you love your reaction should automatically be to question what would happen if you never end up satisfying them. When the father does this he realizes the outcome isn’t what he’d hope for. He then finally realizes that he still has time to meet that expectation and he isn’t being rushed.
Joy Harjo’s poem “Perhaps the World Ends Here” implants an impression of the world as a kitchen table: “The world begins at a kitchen table. No matter what, we must eat to live.” (1). As I interpreted the poem, I perceived it as a brief analysis of life. Harjo elaborates life as one protracted feast, and our life ends when we eat the concluding bite of our meal: “Perhaps the world will end at the kitchen table, while we are laughing and crying, eating of the last sweet bite.”
In this free verse poem, I wrote about my experience with an incident that occur where I thought I was going to die. I started this poem off by telling the readers that this incident occur when I was in my youth. I used the word youth instead child because when you think of a child, you think of a five year old kid with no life experiences. With this in mine, when the readers reads the word youth. Youth could have either a good or bad connotative meaning to it depending on the experiences the reader has or had with that word, leading to me choosing the word youth instead child.
I really love it. I think this poem can be interpreted in many different ways, I really recommend it to everyone, also, it is not a long poem and the style of it is more simple and makes it easy to understand because it doesn't use difficult words. Hanging Fire is a poem that can make people realize that even
“The Round” describes the speaker’s first round of golf. The first stanza introduces the topic, giving when the round took place and how the speaker immediately fell in love with golf. Metaphors depict the speaker’s feelings on the golf course in the second stanza, in which the speaker also includes a rhetorical question alluding to his/her new passion. The third stanza looks into the future of the speaker’s golfing career, who will do anything to reach the next level. The final stanza mentions the speaker’s previous love for baseball and allows readers to finish the story, as the poem concludes with a vague idea.
