Rita Dove
"Poetry is language at its most distilled and most powerful." Rita Dove wrote multiple poems that included literary meanings, but she mostly used imagery. In addition, Rita Dove wrote multiple poems that included a structure, but she mostly wrote free verse poems. Lastly, Rita Dove wrote multiple poems that included a romantic tone. Rita Dove loved to write poems that had imagery, free verse and that were romantic. Most of Rita Dove's poems were full of imagery. Rita Dove's poems showed examples of imagery. In the poem " The Secret Garden" she wrote ''I was ill laying in my bed of old papers." This is an example of imagery because one can imagine someone lying in bed sick. Another example of imagery is in the poem ''American Smooth" …show more content…

In the poem "Flirtation" Rita Dove said "My heart is humming a tune I haven't heard in years!" This indicates that the poem is romantic because we can infer that the girl has finally fallen in love and that she is happy. Another example of a romantic poem is in "American Smooth" when Rita Dove says "We were dancing--- it must have been a foxtrot or a waltz, something romantic." This clearly indicates that the poem is about something romantic. Overall, Rita Dove loved writing poems that included imagery, free verse and that were romantic. Rita Dove is an amazing poet who is still alive to this day. Rita Dove loved to write romantic poems, especially about falling in love and dancing. She also liked to write poems that included imagery, so it would give you a better understanding of the poem. She lastly liked to write free verse poems. Therefore, she loved to write poems that were romantic, free verse and that were full of imagery so one can relate to the poems personally which will help one understand the content …show more content…
