Community policing and Team policing were alternative approaches used in American police agencies. However, both alternative approaches have some similarities and differences two. Starting with similarities, both Community and team policing tried to create some type of relationship between the police and their residents. Not only that, both alternative approaches are based on the use of community groups, residents, and the use of active participation in law enforcement to help identify and develop solutions to problems found in their communities while increasing community trust and confidence in law enforcement. Team policing not only had to deal with police dispatchers who didn’t know which officer was a part of team policing, which later created problems. Also, with team policing, agencies attempted to maximize their interaction among team members by exchanging information, having team conferences, and having strong leaders. Team policing also attempted to have or attend regular community meetings, and team members were to make decisions with input from neighborhood residents. Lastly, team policing attempted to help officers become familiar with and committed to serving the neighborhoods they police. Moreover, community policing was dedicated to having nothing to do with criminal law enforcement but involves service to the community. Furthermore, community policing encourages interactive partnerships between law enforcement officers and relevant stakeholders like the media, private businesses, and other government agencies. Not only that community policing focuses on preventing crimes, and geographic focus and ownership. Lastly, community policing uses models and other tools to systematically identify problems. For instance, “this involves the use of some systematic problem-solving approach such as the SARA model or the problem analysis triangle.” (Archbold et al., 2021) This goes to show the difference between team and community policing in
