There is great similarity between the puritan’s writings and non-puritan’s children’s books, but there are also many differences. One of the major similarities in both was the use of reading, specifically nursery rhymes, as a tool to teach moral lessons. The common lessons between both were: listen to your parents, respect gods, treat others with kindness and do not slack off in school. However, over time and with the decline of puritanism, strict religious views seem to dissipate, and the threats of harsh punishment for going against these religious ideals declined. This had an effect of the way people taught children and this change is apparent in their writing.
