In the South, many people were affected negatively by the war. Physically, most people didn’t return from the war, those who did were badly injured. In part of the movie, we learn that the twins had both died in the war. Furthermore, we had seen a scene where thousands of injured soldiers were laying in wait for the doctor. Equally as important, people in the South were affected emotionally. Southerners became terrified of everyone. When a Yankee soldier entered the house, Scarlett turned to killing him out of fear.
