In the book, Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt, the newspaper is a symbol of family. This symbol shows up over and over in quotes by and about the family. This weekly newspaper becomes an important symbol for explaining the theme of “family is whoever and wherever you need them to be.” In the early pages of the book, the family moves to Illinois.
